April 11 – #RoyalVisitIndia – Day 2 – New Delhi, India – Roundup & Photos

Day 2 of the Royal Tour of India was just as jammed packed and exciting as the first, although more somber, The Duchess of Cambridge still looked radiant as she debuted two new outfits, first in Mumbai, then in New Delhi. Meeting Young Entrepreneurs – The Duke and Duchess started off their second day of the tour in Mumbai, India meeting with young entrepreneurs and innovaters at The Social. The duo took time to meet with individuals and Prince William seemed especially eager to experiment with all the start-up ventures he was shown, including learning to type in Braille, and making dosas (similar to crepes)using an automatic machine. The duo also launched a program called the 2016-2017 GREAT Tech Rocketship Awards, with Prince William saying:

“Catherine and I are very impressed by the energy and ideas we have just seen,” he told invited guests. “Being here today, it is clear that India is leading the way in so many areas of innovation and technology. Your ability to innovate is not just good news for India, but it’s great news for the world. With one-sixth of the world’s population, young innovators like you must play a major role.”

The pair then boarded a plane to begin the next half of their day in New Delhi, India.

Paying Respects – The first event to take place in New Delhi was a wreath laying ceremony to honour the soldiers from Indian regiments who served in World War I,at India Gate Memorial. Kate struggled with her dress as the wind took an unfortunate time to pick up. The duo then headed to the Gandhi Smrit Museum located in Old Birla House, where Mahatma Gandhi, India’s founding father, spent the last few years of his life to pay their respects. William and Kate removed their shoes as they walked the area. Both seemed incredibly moved by their visit.

Happy Birthday, Your Majesty – In their final event of the night The Duke and Duchess attended a Garden Party celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday at the British High Commissioner’s official residence. After taking time to chat local government officials and guests. Prince William took to the stage for a brief speech before Catherine joined him to cut the first slice of cake with a sword. “I am incredibly lucky to have my grandmother in my life. As she turns 90, she is a remarkably energetic and dedicated guiding force for her family. And I am so glad that my children are having the chance to get to know The Queen. George and Charlotte. too, will discover how lucky they are to have such a wonderful great-grandmother – a role model for the rest of their lives.

Now, it is important that everyone here tonight understands that I am here as The Queen’s representative. She may be my grandmother but she is also very much the boss! And with that in mind she has given me a message that I am privileged to read out to you all tonight. From HM the Queen: “Prince Philip and I send our warmest good wishes to all you attending this special Garden Party. I am delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been able to join you this afternoon during their visit to your country. I have fond memories of our previous visits to India. This event today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the enduring friendship between our two countries, our shared culture and the business opportunities we can create together. It is with great pleasure that I entrust another generation of my family to strengthen and renew our bonds. Elizabeth R.”

William ended his speech saying “Now I can report back to Granny that I have done my duty! Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining with us to wish The Queen a very happy. birthday. Bahot dhanyavaad.”
