Photos & Roundup: October 14 – Royal Tour Pakistan – Day 1

On October 14, 2019 The Duke and Duchess arrived to Rawalpindi, a city located just outside the capital city of Islamabad. The Duke and Duchess landed at 9:30 p.m. local time at Pakistani Air Force Base Nur Khan. William and Catherine were greeted by Britain’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Thomas Drew.

The Cambridge’s will spend five days in the country starting today and concluding October 18, 2019.

When the tour was announced High Commissioner for Pakistan, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, said: “The Government and the people of Pakistan warmly welcome the announcement of the royal visit by Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan this year. The people of Pakistan still cherish and fondly recall the visits of Her Majesty the Queen to Pakistan in 1961 and 1997. The upcoming royal visit is a reflection of the importance the United Kingdom attaches to its relations with Pakistan. The two countries enjoy historical links which both sides wish to strengthen further.”

Although the first full day of the tour will start tomorrow, the itinerary has been embargoed for security reasons. We do know The Duke and Duchess will focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today with it’s rich culture, diverse communities and beautiful landscapes.

Their Royal Highnesses will meet a wide variety of people, including children and young people, leaders from government, business and the charity sector, inspiring conservationists, and well-known cultural figures and sporting stars.
