New Patronage: The Royal Photographic Society

The Duchess of Cambridge has become Patron of The Royal Photographic Society.

Her Majesty The Queen has passed the patronage to The Duchess after having held the role for 67 years. The new patronage has been announced ahead of Her Royal Highness’s visit to a photography workshop run by The Royal Photographic Society and Action for Children, which is another of The Duchess’s patronages.

Her Royal Highness will join children from Action for Children in several sessions, run with Royal Photographic Society Honorary Fellows Jillian Edelstein and Harry Borden, that will cover various elements of photography such as portraits, light and colour. Alongside developing new skills, the workshop will highlight how photography provides a universal language for young people to express themselves and release their thoughts and feelings.

The Duchess has a longstanding interest in photography, and this patronage will further highlight the beneficial impact that art and creativity can have on emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people.

The Royal Photographic Society is one of the world’s oldest photographic societies. It was founded in 1853 with the objective of promoting the art and science of photography, and in the same year received Royal patronage from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The Society has over 11,000 members and runs an extensive programme of more than 500 events throughout the United Kingdom and internationally. Her Royal Highness was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Photographic Society in January 2017.

Chief Operating Officer of the Royal Photographic Society Mike Taylor said, “It is a huge honour to have The Duchess as our Patron, especially given her personal interest in photography. We know that photography and creative pursuits have such a positive impact for people of all ages, and we are excited to be working with one of The Duchess’s charities in support of their work.”

The Duke & Duchess of Sussex Will Split From The Royal Foundation

Later this year The Royal Foundation will become the principal charitable and philanthropic vehicle for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will establish their own new charitable foundation with transitional operating support from The Royal Foundation. In addition both couples will continue to work together on projects in the future, including on The Foundation’s mental health programme, Heads Together.

These changes are designed to best complement the work and responsibilities of Their Royal Highnesses as they prepare for their future roles, and to better align their charitable activity with their new households.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are incredibly proud of what they have achieved together through The Royal Foundation. They are especially proud to have established a charity that has had, and will continue to have, significant long-lasting impact, changing lives for the better.

June 17 – Order Of The Garter Service At Windsor Castle

Today, June 17, 2019 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Order Of The Garter Service At Windsor Castle.

The Order of The Garter Service is one of the most traditional ceremonies in the Queen’s calendar. Every June, a grand procession of the knights takes place at Windsor Castle, accompanied by a marching band and Officers of the Order, all in grand ceremonial dress.

The day begins with The Queen formally investing any new Companions with the Order’s insignia in the Throne Room of the Castle. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh entertain the members and officers at a lunch, and then all process on foot to a service in St. George’s Chapel. There is a short service where any new Companions are installed. The Sovereign and other members of the Order then return to the Upper Ward of the castle in carriages and cars.

Today, the Order includes the Queen, who is Sovereign of the Garter, several senior Members of the Royal Family, and twenty-four knights chosen in recognition of their work. Knights of the Garter are chosen personally by the Sovereign to honour those who have held public office, who have contributed in a particular way to national life or who have served the Sovereign personally.

The Duchess of Cambridge, The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Countess of Wessex were joined by The Queen of Spain and The Queen of the Netherlands for today’s service and procession.

June 12 – Attending Addiction Awareness Week Gala Dinner

Tonight, June 12, 2019 The Duchess of Cambridge attended the Addiction Awareness Week Gala Dinner.

The Duchess joined her patronage Action on Addiction and Chef Skye Gyngell for the first annual gala dinner in recognition of Addiction Awareness Week. From June 10-16 of 2019, Addiction Awareness Week aims to provide a platform to discuss the many elements of addiction, and to engage with people and families affected, and to raise public awareness.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been Patron of Action on Addiction since January 2012 and has credited the charity on a number of occasions as where her work with mental health and early intervention started. June 11 – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Visit Cumbria

On June 11, 2019 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Cumbria.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are celebrating the work of local heroes, farmers, volunteers and those supporting the rural community in Cumbria.

William and Catherine started their visit in Keswick visiting members of the public from a range of services, including community first responders, young people trained as mental health first aiders and the local mountain rescue service. In the photos you’ll see Catherine greeting English Springer Spaniel’s Max, Paddy and Prince Harry of Winterfell. Their Royal Highnesses met therapy dog Max last month at The Queen’s Garden Party. The Duke and Duchess also stopped at the Market Square where Catherine sampled cheese and the couple met with well-wishers.

The couple then visited Deepdale Hall Farm in Patterdale where The Duke and Duchess met the Brown family, who have been farming near Lake Ullswater since the 1950s. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent time on Deepdale Hall Farm with the Brown family tending to their flock of Herdwick and Swaledale sheep, joining them for sheep shearing, herding and dry stone walling. They also joined the Brown family, local farmers, and members of the Farmer Network to discuss some of the key challenges farmers are facing — including rural isolation, Brexit and support payments. Although The Royal Family tends to stay out of politics it’s vital that Prince William stay connected with the issues that are affecting people as he will one day take the throne.

Their Royal Highnesses ended their visit with Cumbria Wildlife Charity, the only voluntary organisation devoted solely to the conservation of the wildlife and wildplaces of Cumbria, and children from Patterdale School for an environmental educational session on the Ullswater Way.

June 08 – Trooping The Colour

On June 08, 2019 The Royal Family gathered for Trooping The Colour.

Trooping The Colour marks The Queen’s official birthday which is actually on April 21. Each June over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare. The parade travels from Buckingham Palace and down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade, with Members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages.

The display closes with an RAF fly-past, watched by Members of the Royal Family from Buckingham Palace balcony.

This year The Duchess of Cambridge shared a carriage with The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (Duchess Meghan is still on maternity leave, but still made the event!). Even more exciting, Prince Louis made his balcony debut and stole the show!
