Irish Guards

The Irish Guards – known affectionately throughout the Army as ‘the Micks’ – is an Irish regiment which has proven its loyalty and grit on many tough operations. Its soldiers also have the privilege of guarding royal palaces. St Patrick’s Day is the traditional celebration of the Irish Guards. On this day each year members of the regiment are presented with fresh shamrock from The Princess of Wales.

Fleet Air Arm

The Fleet Air Arm (FAA) operates all the Royal Navy’s aircraft. A vital element for many of the wide and varied roles undertaken by the Royal Navy, FAA roles range from humanitarian operations, through to securing the seas, fighting terrorism and landing troops onto hostile shores. The Fleet Air Arm uses technologically advanced aircraft and world-leading expertise to act as the spearhead of the entire Royal Navy.

1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards

With a long and distinguished history stretching back more than 300 years, 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards is the Cavalry Regiment of Wales and the Border Counties. Specialising in reconnaissance its soldiers fight for information about the enemy and environment.

R.A.F. Coningsby
Royal Honorary Air Commodore

RAF Coningsby is home to two frontline, combat-ready squadrons and is the training station for Typhoon pilots.
