The Duchess of Cambridge was today greeted by a wave of St George’s Day flags from cheering schoolchildren as she arrived to launch a counselling programme.

Kate visited The Willows Primary School in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, to launch a project to reduce the impact of drug and alcohol addiction on children and their families.

At six months into her pregnancy, Kate’s baby bump was clearly visible under her patterned blue silk floral dress by Sophia Visconti.

The school counselling initiative is a partnership between charities Place2Be and Action on Addiction with funding from Comic Relief and the Royal Foundation of which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry are patrons.

Action on Addiction will train, supervise and support Place2Be counsellors to deliver the programme in school settings across England.

In a speech in the school hall, the Duchess told the audience: “Addiction is a hugely complex and destructive disease and its impact can be simply devastating. All too often, lives and families can be shattered by it.

“Through my Patronage of Action on Addiction, I feel fortunate to have met a wide range of inspirational people who have overcome addiction. It is so encouraging to see that with the right help – like that of Action on Addiction – it can be conquered.

“But those who are addicted are not the only victims. I have been struck by the profound and deeply damaging impact it has on the children of affected parents.

“Research has shown that children of those who are addicted are seven times more likely to have addiction problems themselves. They are also brought up surrounded by fear, instability and chaos.

“Last year, I asked The Royal Foundation, which I share with William and Harry, to see what could be done to help these children.

“In partnership with Comic Relief, our foundation commissioned a piece of research to explore this issue. Today, it gives me an enormous feeling of pride and excitement to launch a programme that will bring this research to life.

“The cycle of addiction needs to be broken. My hope is that through this specialist and targeted delivery of care, these children will have the best possible start in life – the one that they deserve.”

(Photos) Kate Visits The Scouts At Windsor Castle – (04/21)

Her baby bump visible under a short light green Mulberry coat, the Duchess met youngsters who had received gallantry awards after being nominated for their bravery and heroism in their everyday lives.

Despite being around six months pregnant, the royal is increasing her charitable workload and is now patron of seven organisations as well as being a volunteer with the Scout Association.

Since Kate, 31, joined the Scouts last year, more than 2,800 new adult volunteers have joined up – the second biggest rise since 1986.

Chief Scout, adventurer and TV star Bear Grylls said: “The Duchess is an incredible role model and she helps us show that Scouting’s not just for boys.

“She’s also such a generous volunteer and everyone is so excited to have her in the Scouting family. Many people have followed her lead and are getting involved and enjoying the adventure.”

Most of the youngsters at the National Review of Queen’s Scouts were there to receive Queen’s Scouts awards – the highest a scout can gain – for outstanding achievements.

Among those who received awards for their bravery was 17-year-old Lee Craven, from Hook, Hampshire.

On one of the coldest days of last year, he helped drag a friend from an icy canal after he fell in in the dark.

Lee said: “I hooked my feet under a tree stump and tried to reach for his hand.

“It was pitch black but I managed to pull him to the side to safety. It was quite easy because of the adrenalin.”

Daniel Bean, 16, from the Isle of Wight, was given an award for going to the aid of a suicidal woman who had slit her wrists last May.

Daniel, who joined the Beavers aged six, was walking along a cliff top when he spotted the woman.

He said: “I had my phone on me and luckily I had a signal, so I called an ambulance and they and the police came down.”

The annual celebration at Windsor Castle dates back 80 years. The Queen attended the event last year but was celebrating her 87th birthday privately.

Here are the photos from Will and Kate’s two day tour of Scotland. I couldn’t add them before because we ran out of space on the site (which isn’t a bad thing – it just means we’re growing!). But now we got more space! I’ll also be adding a load of magazine scans to the gallery so stay tuned!

Will & Kate To Visit Offices Of Child Bereavement UK

Prince William and Kate Middleton continue to do good.

The royal couple will visit the offices of Child Bereavement UK at the Clare Charity Centre in Saunderton, Buckinghamshire on March 19, St. James’s Palace has announced.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will meet staff from the charity’s bereavement services as well as its training and fundraising teams.

The parents-to-be will then be introduced to bereaved families involved in the charity’s services.

The charity supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.

Prince William is a patron of the charity.

(Photos) The Duchess Visits Grimsby – (03/05)

The Duchess, who is due to give birth in July, chatted about her pregnancy with members of the public as she went on an impromptu walkabout after visiting a fishing museum.
Bobbie Brown, a 42-year-old Sainsbury’s shop worker, waited in chilly temperatures for more than three hours to see the Duchess, and said: “I asked her if the baby had been moving or kicking and she said ‘Yes it is, very much so.’”

More than 1,000 people were kept waiting for 70 minutes longer than expected because the Duchess had opted to fly to Grimsby by helicopter rather than taking the train, and thick fog prevented her leaving London on time.

St James’s Palace defended the decision to use the Royal Flight’s helicopter, at an estimated cost of £4,000, rather than buying train tickets for £216 return, which would have enabled the Duchess to arrive in good time for her first engagement of the day.
A palace spokesman said: “A number of factors are always taken into account when considering royal travel arrangements, including what the member of the Royal family is doing before and after the engagements, and it was decided that the best way to travel was by the Royal Flight helicopter.”

EDIT:

Kate’s Upcoming Engagements

The Cambridges are getting back into the swing of things

The Duke of Cambridge is nearing the time where he must decide whether or not to continue on with his RAF career or to take on full-time royal responsibilities, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Kate’s engagement schedule is ramping up.

It was said around the time of the wedding that Prince William and Catherine were granted a two year period of time from The Queen during which they could simply enjoy being newly-weds as part-time royals. William has maintained his full-time position as a Search and Rescue pilot for the Royal Air Force (RAF) during this time, while Kate has undertaken engagements on a part-time basis.

On March 5th, Kate will be headed to the seaport of Grimsby to make three stops, including one that is specifically in support of Prince Charles’ charity, The Prince’s Trust. The schedule of her visits is below (all times are GMT).

11:35am-12:15pm the Fishing Heritage Centre
12:20pm-1:10pm Peaks Lane Fire Station
1:15pm-2:20pm Havelock Academy

Kate will also be joining Prince William for the Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17th in Aldershot.

Kate is also expected to announce at least two new patronages this month, and I expect that we’ll see engagements with those organizations shortly thereafter.
