Photos: October 30 – The Duke And Duchess Visit Coach Core Essex

Today, (October 30, 2018) The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Coach Core Essex, a apprenticeship programme that helps young people who are not in education, employment or training to build a career in sports coaching. The Duke and Duchess found out more about two of these: Sport For Confidence, who uses sport to benefit the lives of people with mental health problems, physical disabilities and learning disabilities and South Essex Gym Club, which offers classes from preschool upwards for artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, adult gym and freestyle classes both of which have employed multiple apprentices through the scheme. Their Royal Highnesses meet Coach Core apprentices and graduates, and learned how the scheme in Essex is getting the local community involved in sport. Coach Core targets communities which have the highest levels of youth unemployment and social deprivation. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joinec in with tennis and indoor athletics coaching sessions and a game of Boccia – one of the sports provided by Sport For Confidence, which offers sporting opportunities for individuals who face barriers to participation. The Duke and Duchess also watched gymnasts in training at the gymnastics centre established by The Royal Foundation in 2012, shortly after the London Olympic Games and driven by a desire to build upon the legacy of the Olympics. Afterwards, The Duke and Duchess met with individuals who had gathered to meet them.
