On Sunday June 12, 2016 a gunman, who is said to have claimed allegiance to the Islamic State entered a LGBT nightclub and murdered 49 individuals and injured dozens more in the worst mass shooting in American history by a lone gunman, the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in US history, and the deadliest terrorist attack in the US since the September 11 attacks of 2001.
