February 02 – EE British Academy Film Awards

On February 02, 2020 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the EE British Academy Film Awards.

Catherine has attended the awards regularly since 2017 with Prince William who has been President of the Academy since 2010.

There was a lot of anticipation this year to see what the Duchess would wear as the BAFTA’s dress code was focused on sustainability. The organization says it is ‘working toward carbon neutrality’ and asked guests to consider wearing outfits that were either repeats, vintage, or from a sustainable fashion designer. Catherine repeated her bespoke Alexander McQueen gown first seen in Malaysia during the Diamond Jubilee Tour in 2012 which took The Duke and Duchess to Southeast Asia. You can view photos of the gown here.

At the awards Their Royal Highnesses walked the red carpet and in his role as President, The Duke awarded The Fellowship Award to film producer Kathleen Kennedy in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television. Her recent work includes producing Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Prince William also gave a speech highlighting the lack of diversity innominees which you can view here.

After the ceremony The Duke and Duchess met with the winners.
